A Dental Sleep Medicine Service Organization
It started in 2016, in a single Austin sleep practice, founded by a dentist whose own family member's life was changed by an oral appliance after years of failed CPAP therapy. The transformation he saw at home — sixty pounds lost, two blood-pressure medications discontinued, an antidepressant discontinued — was the reason he walked away from a comfortable general practice and built one dedicated entirely to treating sleep apnea.
Over the next ten years, that one practice — Sleep Better Austin — grew into a seven-location dental sleep group across Central Texas. We brought in an in-house sleep physician and built a licensed medical arm. We refined the operating playbook through thousands of patients and millions in medical insurance billing. And we proved something that mattered: the entire model is exportable. Other dentists, in other markets, can plug into this infrastructure and grow practices that look very different from what they could build alone.

In-network credentialing and negotiated contracts with the medical payers that actually move the needle for DSM.
Expert DSM-specific billers, coders, and collections built around the realities of medical insurance — not adapted from dental
Through our medical arm, Frontier Sleep & Wellness, partner practices get sleep physician oversight, home sleep testing, and OSA diagnosis built directly into the workflow.
In 2026, we formalized everything we'd built into a single platform — North American Dental Sleep Management — and opened it up to dental sleep providers across the country. NADSM is among the first Dental Sleep Medicine Service Organizations (DSMSOs) in North America, and the only one we're aware of that pairs a full management services organization with a licensed medical-arm brand built directly into the platform.
Most dentists who try to build a dental sleep practice get stuck in exactly the same place: the medical billing they weren't trained for, the payer credentialing nobody helped them through, the physician outreach that never quite happens, the marketing that never quite lands, the HR and lab and scheduling work that piles up between patients. None of it is what they went to dental school for, and all of it is what determines whether the practice grows.
Dental sleep medicine isn't a dental specialty problem. It's a medical-and-dental-together problem. The dentist treats with an oral appliance — but the patient still needs a sleep test, a physician diagnosis, and ongoing physician oversight.
NADSM was structured to solve that. Frontier Sleep & Wellness — our affiliated medical practice and a registered DBA and licensed trademark of NADSM — provides in-house sleep physician oversight, home sleep testing, and OSA diagnosis to every partner on the platform.
Our partner dentists offer one unified path from screening to therapy, without sending patients down the street to get the medical workup elsewhere.

Here's the pattern we've watched play out across the industry, and it's the reason we built this platform.
A dentist learns dental sleep medicine. They go back to their practice excited, set up a screening protocol, and start identifying OSA risk inside their existing patient base. The first year or two is genuinely exciting — they find patients who need treatment, deliver appliances, watch lives change in the operatory. Volume grows. The practice has momentum.
And then, somewhere around year two or three, the curve flattens. They've screened most of their existing patients. The ones who needed treatment have largely been treated. The internal pool is worked through. And because every spare hour has gone into clinical skill and running the practice, the one thing that would have replaced that pool was never built — a steady, external referral pipeline from sleep physicians, pulmonologists, cardiologists, and primary care.
That's the DSM Cliff. It's where most independent dental sleep practices stall — and where many of them quietly give up on DSM altogether.
We built NADSM specifically to change that trajectory.

On the inside, we install the screening protocols, team training, and clinical workflows that help you identify and convert every OSA-risk patient already sitting in your dental practice.
On the outside, at the same time, our physician liaisons go to work in your market. We build the referral relationships, host the provider events, run the marketing, and stand up the medical billing and credentialing required to be a credible referral destination for sleep physicians and other medical providers.
These conversations are confidential. There is no commitment to begin — just a real conversation about your practice, your market, and where you sit on the curve.
We meet your practices needs today while at the same getting ready for growth tomorrow.
You built a real DSM practice off your patient pool, but volume has stalled or fallen. The screening hits aren't producing like they used to. You suspect the answer is "more marketing" or "more referrals," but you don't know where to start, and the bandwidth to figure it out doesn't exist. We come in, look at your numbers, and re-engineer the referral and patient acquisition engine around your market. The cliff stops being the end of the story — it becomes the moment you started climbing back.
You're treating a healthy number of DSM patients each month from your existing dental base, and the momentum feels good. But you've noticed the screening hits aren't what they used to be, and you know — quietly — that the patient pool isn't infinite. This is the best moment to plug in. We build the bridge in the background while you keep working the pool, so by the time the internal patients thin out, external referrals are already filling the schedule. You never feel the cliff.
You're convinced DSM is the future of your practice — or your next practice — and you want to build it the right way from the start. We model the opportunity in your market, outline the investment, and stand up both the internal screening engine and the external referral pipeline from day one. You skip the cliff entirely.

Dr. Hedgecock's path into dental sleep medicine started with a member of his own family, who — after years of failed CPAP therapy — was successfully treated with an oral appliance and transformed in front of him. He left a comfortable general practice to build one dedicated entirely to dental sleep medicine, founding Sleep Better Austin in 2016. Ten years later, that practice has grown to seven locations across Central Texas, and the operating playbook he built has become the foundation of the NADSM platform. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, has coached hundreds of dentists through the International Academy of Sleep, lectures nationally on dental sleep medicine, and earned his MBA from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin.
